Mr. Transman Evening Wear
I wanted to do a special post here of the “evening wear” section of Mr. Transman 2010. I think it’s amazing that in this small number of transman contestants, the pageant still visibly represented such a wide spectrum of masculinities and gender identities.

Resources for Our Families (parents specifically)!
A friend of mine recently came out to his parents and I volunteered to give him some resources for parents. As I was doing this, I thought it was probably something that a lot of us need, so I’m putting it up here. I also did a little more researching so I could have as complete and thorough list as possible. This is geared towards parents of FTMs who are adolescents or older, but many of the...

How to describe our bodies..
genderqueer: “Beyond the Binary: How Shall I Describe My Body?” guesswhatsvegan: “Female bodied” or “male bodied” are common phrases in my trans arsenal, ones I use frequently but have been feeling more and more uncomfortable with recently.  It took reading this article to help me articulate why I dislike the terms.  To call myself, a trans guy, “female bodied” reinforces cultural norms about...

wish away the nightmare
i’ve been having really awful gender and trans-related nightmares. like toss and turn nightmares. every night. i was worried my dysphoria would get worse when i started T, since the changes take so long. but i felt so good at first. my second shot is tuesday, so hopefully i’ll feel better then. i think it also has to do with me graduating soon and realizing that the world is not like smith at...

a men’s suit.
so i’ve been writing from the practical, style-guide position about getting a new suit. but i wanted to share what it feels like and means to me. i just purchased my first men’s suit. it’s something i’ve wanted for a long time, even before i was out. my parents told me about two years ago that i was approaching the time in life of interviews, funerals, and weddings, and i needed something to...

Oh my god I'm trans and need a suit.
Senior Ball is coming up, and I want to look classy and glamorous and handsome with my beautiful date. Wait.. that means.. I need.. a suit! The panic sets in. How do we find suits that fit well and don’t make us look like dykes (no offense to the dykes out there - you rock yr dykey suits!)? It’s a challenge to find clothing that fits us super well, and honestly I get by by keeping it casual....

I’ve had a lot of guilt surrounding coming out to the people who love and care about me. I often feel very selfish about it. It’s not easy for them - and it’s not always their fault. Even a family that gets it right away and can see past the name change and the physical changes and fully embrace their loved one’s transition must ultimately deal with how and when to tell the people in their...

Style for Transmen Catch-Up
So remember how i started to do a series on style for transmen? I’ve been a slacker and also have been trying REALLY HARD to not spend money, so i haven’t updated lately. Well, to make up for it, I’ve compiled a list of my favorite (and most appropriate) recent posts from men’s fashion and style blogs. Enjoy! The GQ Guide to Dressing For Less - actually has pretty great tips Grooming Basics...
